Egyptian Folklore
Jinn (anglicized as genies) are mythical beings in Islamic tradition often associated with dreams and nightmares. Believed to inhabit a parallel realm, jinn can be both benevolent or malevolent entities known for inspiring tales of magical wishes and enchanted objects. They are thought to inhabit desolate places and use dreams as a gateway between the mortal world and the unseen. A Cambridge neuroscience study found that as many as 48% of those who experience sleep paralysis in Egypt believe it to be the result of a jinn attack.
